Whilst you may not be thinking about winter storage during the lovely summer months, thinking ahead and taking storage space for those lovely garden chairs, cushions, BBQ and other summer goods is a great idea. We recommend 10ft (80sqft) outdoor storage containers for a full garden’s worth of goods. Storing garden furniture properly during the winter months protect it from the elements and extends its lifespan. Here are some steps to help you store your garden furniture effectively:
- Clean the furniture: Start by cleaning your garden furniture thoroughly. Remove any dirt, dust, or stains using appropriate cleaning agents suitable for the specific material of your furniture (e.g., wood, metal, plastic). Make sure to dry the furniture completely before proceeding.
- Disassemble if possible: If your furniture can be disassembled, such as tables, chairs, or umbrella stands, take them apart. This will make storage easier and save space. Keep the screws, nuts, and bolts in a labelled bag or container to avoid losing them.
- Apply protective coating: For wooden furniture, apply a fresh coat of protective finish or sealant appropriate for outdoor use. This will help preserve the wood and protect it from moisture and weathering during storage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product you are using.
- Remove cushions and fabric: If your furniture has cushions or fabric elements, remove them. Clean the cushions according to the manufacturer’s instructions and store them separately in a clean and dry place. Make sure they are completely dry to prevent mould or mildew growth.
- Choose an appropriate storage location: Find a suitable storage area that is dry, well-ventilated, and preferably climate-controlled or indoor storage with a regulated temperature such as our indoor storage rooms.
- Protect delicate pieces: If you have delicate or fragile furniture pieces, consider wrapping them in blankets, bubble wrap, or furniture covers to provide an extra layer of protection against scratches or damage. All available from our retail store in Sheeplands reception.
- Arrange and organise: Arrange the furniture pieces in the storage area in a way that maximises space and minimises the risk of damage. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of fragile ones. If space is limited, you can consider using storage racks, hooks, or hanging systems to hang certain furniture pieces.
- Monitor and inspect: Occasionally check on your stored furniture during the winter to ensure there are no signs of moisture, pests, or damage. If you notice any issues, address them promptly to prevent further damage.

Cleanest storage facility I have seenPosted on Francine GregoryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really professional storage facility. I recently moved my motorhome here and at last I have somewhere that is very easy to access, is on clean hardstanding, has plenty of room to manoeuvre and has excellent security. There is also a very friendly reception office that is staffed during working hours, Monday to Friday, who are happy to answer any queries you have. It may be fairly pricy, but it’s worth it for peace of mind.Posted on Rachel ThornTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Following a house sale and subsequent gear shift in life, I currently live a rather nomadic lifestyle, travelling around the country dog&house-sitting, and so have been storing my goods & chattels at Sheeplands in Wargrave for a few years now. My experience of this lovely local family firm has been unequivocally positive - the location is peaceful and safe, the security strong and completely trustworthy, the access arrangements convenient and easy to navigate and the team nothing but kind, friendly and helpful. As individuals, everyone is exceptionally warm and welcoming, and as a professional organisation, they have been so flexible, supportive and generous as my needs have evolved and as I have become a longer-term client. They do what they do so very well, and I have no hesitation at all in recommending them to the world. All of it.Posted on Jayne ParsonsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. All the staff were really helpful and friendly the facilities are great - just what we needed. The whole experience was stress free, and enjoyable. They really do deliver on their promise of ‘The Sheeplands’ Hug’, highly recommend!Posted on Andrew NormanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The staff are friendly and helpful. Normal access to the storage unit is very good (7.00am until 9.00pm). The units themselves are very clean and actually look quite new. There are various trolleys and sack lifts for moving bulkier or heavy items. All in all very good experience so far
