We can’t quite believe the summer holidays have arrived already! If you’re like us, you’ll already be thinking about how on earth you’re going to keep the kids (and yourself) entertained for the next six weeks…

Whether you’re just looking to kill a couple of hours, wanting some adult ‘me time,’ or needing to think of something fun for the whole family to do for the day, we’ve rounded up some of the best activities and hidden gems in our local community.

Take the train into Henley

Always a winner with younger children, Wargrave is lucky enough to have its very own train station and it’s a great way to get and about over the

summer. Running between Twyford and Henley, it’s super easy and very quick to hop on in the village and get off in the heart of stunning Henley. There for the day? Why not pack yourself and the whole family off with a picnic and enjoy the scenes by the river, whilst the kids play on the mini fairground rides and giant inflatable slide!

Take advantage of Wargrave’s fabulous new cafes
In recent months, two fabulous cafes have popped up in Wargrave –  H’artisian and Daisy Love, with both offering an amazing array of top notch coffee, refreshing cool drinks and tonnes of freshly made yummy food options. Whether you want to eat in or take out, there are plenty of treats to tickle your fancy!

Grab a cold drink at the pub
The Bull and The St George and Dragon are the perfect pit stops whilst out for a hearty walk! Keep a look out for live music over at The Greyhound too.

The Bull offers the most amazing roast dinner (we can say this first-hand) and possibly the best pie’s we have ever eaten! They also have a lovely little garden to sit back and relax in.

The George and Dragon is a brilliant spot for an evening sundowner, whilst watching the boats pass on the river.

If you fancy walking a little further, The Horns in Crazies Hill, is a brilliant option. They have a great garden and even a mini football pitch to keep the kids entertained, whilst you take in the pretty surroundings!

Woodland walks
There are plenty of walks around the local area for all abilities. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll to the woods near Highfield Lane or further afield on a hike from Shiplake Boathouse to Sonning Bridge, take a look at these top walks on Komoot.

Wargrave Boat Club
Situated down a quiet track, the village’s well equipped family Boating Club provides boats and courses for kayaking, canoeing, dinghy rowing, skiffing, punting, fine boat rowing and paddle boarding.  Visit their website here to find out more.

Check-out Rosie’s Chocolate Factory here on Sheeplands
